About

The right foundation for your sporting career

The Queensland Institute of Sport Limited (QIS) is a not-for-profit community sports organisation providing young up-and-coming athletes with additional support and development across a wide range of sporting disciplines.

Launched in June 2012, the QIS focuses on individual athlete education and development both on and off the sporting field, acting as a stepping stone for young people on the pathway to elite athlete development.

Offering a total of 16 key sporting programs includingAAFL,Abasketball,Acricket,Acheer and dance,Afootball,Agolf,Afield hockey,Anetball,Arugby union,Arugby league,Asurfing,Aswimming,Atennis,Atriathlon,AvolleyballAandAwater polo, the QIS aim to give young athletes the right foundations for a rewarding career in their chosen sport.

Athletes who participate in a sport outside these key programs can still benefit from involvement with QIS through ourA“aspire” program, which caters for all sports and disciplines.

When it comes time we help our athletes move on to bigger and better things and start training at a higher level again within their chosen sport, progressing from their local institute, to their state institute, and then to the Australian Institute of Sport.

We also aim to provide many young members of the QIS with employment opportunities (seeACareers) within our sporting programs. School based trainees will be provided with the opportunity to develop their coaching skills by collaboratively working with regional development officers and high quality coaches to deliver junior PE programs and sports clinics for schools, clubs, associations and care programs as well assisting with the running of many junior sporting carnivals.
